A dark take on the NFT craze.
We’ve been on a mission to make the world’s most evil octopus, culturally relevant in Australia. From hiring a PR agent, to releasing a meditation video - The Kraken has been on a path to fame unlike any other mythical beast.
But in 2022 after years of lockdowns, it turned out the most famous things were happening in digital culture. Bored Apes, Fancy Pandas and JPEGS of all shapes and sizes were sending the world crazy, and making a few weirdos rich. What better place for The Kraken to play?
Research showed us that our audience were immersed in digital spaces, spending digital money, and buying digital art. But the savvy amongst our audience were also starting to ask a few questions. We wanted to embrace this divide, flip it on it’s head, and pose a question to our thirsty audience - IRL, or NFT?
We created a collection of NFTs merging digital art with maritime legend, but among them lay something….real.
Then came a deliciously devious decision; Mint an NFT or claim a real Kraken Rum.
The decision drove discussion, deliberation and divided opinion. But the refreshing taste of The Kraken Rum surfaced as the winner. So in a sea of NFTs, fans chose something real.
Afterall, you can’t right-click-save it, but you can savour it.
The results were as refreshing as a sip of The Kraken Rum.
